10 Nov 2002 What I would like to say about David is that my grandfather was in the war with him and his name is Nick Grube and I watched a film in school on the Wall and they showed his name and his sister Sheila and I think that it is very nice of people who are there for David and who are there for his family. 22 Dec 2002 My father was the pilot in the crash that Captain David Head died in. Through my father I have learned what it was like to be there. 11 Jul 2006 David was my uncle through marriage. Even though I did not know him, his service did have an impact on my life. I have been a helicopter crew chief and mechanic in the Army for 12 years. A Note from The Virtual Wall Four men died and one survived when a UH-1H (tail number 68-15589) of B Company, 227th Cbt Avn Bn, was hit in the port side by a B-40 rocket while at low altitude approaching an unsecured landing zone. The four dead were CPT David Neil Head, copilot, B/227th AHB SP4 William Walter Malone, crew chief, B/227th AHB SP4 Robert Coronado, gunner, B/227th AHB (died of wounds 2/21/71) 1LT Christopher L. Clearwaters, passenger, A Co, 5th Bn, 7th Cav Rgt The Aircraft Commander, CW2 Timothy E Cleary, still strapped in his seat, was ejected by the force of the explosion and survived. The three crewmen are remembered by their comrades in Bravo Company, 227th AHB.
