I served with Cliff in A CO, 2/39th. I was one of four soldiers to carry his body to a helicopter on the morning of June 4th. Cliff was well liked and considered to be the best medic we had. You could always count on Cliff for help no matter what. He died while giving aid to a good friend of mind while under intense enemy fire. I remember he was always humming or singing Tammy Wynette's song,"I Don't Want To Play House (it makes my mommy cry)". For the rest of my tour in Vietnam we never had anyone to fill Cliff's shoes.

Cliff Stapleton was truly one of my best friends during High School at Watkins Memorial High School. We did a lot of things together and he truly was a person who stayed in your heart. Over the years I lost contact with Cliff, because I myself had joined the U.S. Air Force becoming a Loadmaster on C-130 aircraft, moving around from base to base. I found out that he was killed in action long after I had left the service. I carry to this day a reminder around my right wrist, to remember me of the fond times we shared throughout the short time we had together. It took me a time to find his resting place, it was a heavy moment in my life to loose such a friend.
