01 May 2002 He was a young man But most called him "Pop" Because at 26 He was at the top. He was quiet but always had a smile and when he was needed went the extra mile. Like most of us, he was marking time Just serve your country and it'll be fine. But on May 30, he left us here and headed for Glory without shedding a tear. 03 May 2002 In the picture Dick Weid is on the left holding the M-79 grenade launcher. The guy on the right is me, Joe Persaud. I was Dick's squad leader at the time and through most of his tour. I was on R&R when he got killed. We miss him. Joe Persaud JPers73235@aol.com

 

A Note from The Virtual Wall B Company, 1/7th Cavalry, lost three men as a result of an engagement on 30 May 1970 during the Cambodian incursion: SGT Thomas S. Lipp, Glenside, PA; SGT Harry D. Pickard, Greensboro, NC; and SGT Richard G. Weid, Monroe, MI. Sergeants Pickard and Weid were killed in the action. Sergeant Lipp was one of the men wounded; he died of his injuries on 01 March 1986 and his name was added to the Wall on Veterans' Day 1987.
